
Overview
This healthy baked version of hamburger steak combines lean ground beef, onions, and a savory gravy topping for a filling, low-point dinner that satisfies comfort food cravings.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef (93% lean or leaner)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- ½ cup chopped mushrooms (optional)
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs (or quick oats for lighter option)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 can (10.5 oz) reduced-fat cream of mushroom soup (or 98% fat-free)
- ¼ cup water or low-sodium beef broth
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly coat a baking dish with cooking spray.
- Mix the beef base
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix gently until just combined.
- Form and place patties
- Shape into 4 oval patties and arrange them in the baking dish.
- Add gravy
- In a small bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with water or broth until smooth.
- Pour evenly over the patties.
- Bake
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until cooked through and sauce is bubbly.

- Steamed green beans or roasted vegetables
